San Pedro Canyons

March 17, 2014

I was diving with Belize Pro Dive Centre during my stay on San Pedro. I had come across them on Trip Advisor and heard good things. But more importantly, they were the first dive shop I stumbled across as I was walking up the beach when I first arrived. :P

Our second dive of the afternoon was out to San Pedro Canyons. An easy and shallow reef dive. There were only two of us for the second dive so we went out with one dive master.

The sea fans and some of the coral formations are quite beautiful in Belize.

The surge was still strong and we were swaying back and forth as we dove. Not really a problem but significant enough that I had to be highly aware of my buoyancy and position.

We came across a small school of nurse sharks and other fish. The sharks appeared to be down right playful. It's clear that they're accustomed to humans in their habitat.

Nurse Sharks

Throughout the remainder of the dive we would occasionally see the same nurse sharks. They would follow us briefly and then disappear for a while only to return a few minutes later. It was nice to have the company.
