Diving in Kauai - Dive 2 |
January 17, 2009 |
Cold! Getting back in the water after the surface interval I realized just how cold the water was. By far the coldest I've been while diving in Hawaii. The bottom temperature was only a miserly 74 degrees. In a shorty wet suit I felt every degree (or lack thereof).
As for the wildlife there were a few interesting finds. Another moray eel (but with purple eyes this time), a crab, and a parrotfish.

Close to the end of the dive my dive computer started beeping incesently. Looking at it I was a bit surprised to realize that I was 3 minutes away from my no decompression limit. The previous dive wasn't particularly deep or long but this dive probably should have been on a shallower reef. Anyway, I just ascended to a safe level to increase my allowable bottom time and stayed with the rest of the dive group but about 15-20 feet shallower.
And that was pretty much the end of my diving in Kauai. At this point in the season the weather was too rough for it but the next time I'm here I think I would make the effort to get out to Niihau.
