Baby Barge to New Barge Drift

March 28, 2009

We saw a pod of dolphins from the boat on the way out to our first dive site. We also saw whales breaching the surface, you could see their backs and entire tails as they dove below the surface. Of course I forgot my camera so no pictures this time.

Descended onto Shark's Cove. While everyone was watching a white-tipped reef shark I was mesmerized by a small fish that kept biting at my knuckles. He must have nipped at them ten or more times. Eventually I had to scare him off and move on. I was completely obliviously to everything else while this was happening. By the time I looked up I noticed the dive group had already begun the drift to from the Baby Barge to New Barge.

At the middle of the dive one group surfaced early while the rest of us continued. I got separated from the second group when I ascended on a mooring line on the New Barge. I then stayed on the line to stay with another diver coming up the line. I should have flew a surface marker but couldn't get it prepared in time because of the chop near the surface. Everything worked out in the end and we made it back on board with no problems.
