Diving with Jillian - Dive 2 |
April 11, 2009 |
After an hour long surface interval my next dive with Jillian was at Turtle Canyons. It's a fairly shallow site where my max depth was 33 ft. Of course there are no turtles at Turtle Canyons. Apparently it's named after a near by surfing spot.
Anyway...this started as a pretty relaxing dive as we zigzagged across the site. Our divemaster pointed out a scorpion fish. These fish can be pretty hard to spot if they're not moving so I got a few pics.
The our divemaster scooped up a starfish and started passing it around. After I was finished with it I passed it along to Jillian. Here's a picture of Jillian showing off her starfish.
About halfway through our dive I was checking under rocks looking for anything interesting but when I looked up I couldn't see Jillian immediately. I looked all around me but still couldn't see her. Then I looked up and saw her floating at the surface. I ascended (a little more rapidly than I really should have) and popped up beside her.
Jillian told me she was having trouble controlling her buoyancy and had floated to the surface. After inflating her BCD we talked for a bit and decided to end the dive. The boat was only 100-150 metres away so we put our regulators back in and did a surface swim back to the boat. when we got back to the boat the divemaster popped up to make sure everything was okay before heading back down. Jillian got back on board first without incident. I followed afterward and we just hung out on deck until the rest of the divers returned. Finally the boat made the return trip to the dock at Hawaii Kai and we headed back home to see Andrea and the boys.
