The Vara Wreck

January 22, 2024

The first dive of the day was on the Vara wreck. Purposefully sunk in 15 m of water, it was visible on the dive ship's sonar.

The Vara

It's a nice and easy wreck to explore.

Away from the wreck, I caught these two starfish in a fight for a place to sit. The slightly janky recording is due to a spotty nibbling on the fingers of my camera hand almost the entire time I was recording! I tried to flick it away with a finger but it insistently kept coming back for more.

At the end of the dive, it was time to navigate back. I picked what I thought was the reverse heading on my compass and surfaced in the amount of time I thought it would take to get us back to the boat. I nailed the distance but had got the direction backwards. No problem, the boat just had to make a short trip to come pick us up. Next time I'll know to choose my reverse heading while still on the boat.
