Freedive - Course |
March 8, 2026 |
I completed the PADI Freediver course. It’s been a course I’ve wanted to do for a few years. After scuba diving for so long, I was never sure if freediving was something I’d be comfortable with.
The only way I could figure that out safely was to take a course. It’s really challenging physically and mentally but I found that I was pretty comfortable with it.
Looking back on it, the day in the pool was relatively easy.

Pool Day
The day in the ocean was a lot for me as a first-time freediver. I did 18 freedives and progressively worked my way down to 12m. Each freedive was less than a minute. I can do a “static” breath hold for almost 2 minutes but doing a “dynamic” breath hold while finning down the line is a much different scenario!

Ocean Day
My depth progression throughout the day.
| Freedive | Time (seconds) | Depth (metres) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 34 | 4.8 |
| 2 | 30 | 4.3 |
| 3 | 34 | 5.5 |
| 4 | 37 | 7.1 |
| 5 | 39 | 7.7 |
| 6 | 44 | 9.3 |
| 7 | 34 | 5.8 |
| 8 | 44 | 7.1 |
| 9 | 39 | 6.5 |
| 10 | 42 | 7.9 |
| 11 | 44 | 8.0 |
| 12 | 48 | 9.2 |
| 13 | 53 | 10.3 |
| 14 | 64 | 10.4 |
| 15 | 61 | 10.4 |
| 16 | 64 | 11.2 |
| 17 | 72 | 11.5 |
| 18 | 65 | 11.8 |
We did the loss of motor control (LMC) rescue scenario and ended the day with the shallow water blackout (SWB) rescue.
