Tackle Box

March 17, 2014

My first trip to Belize. I stayed at the Royal Caribbean Resort on San Pedro island. It's a nice place single dwelling cabins that were built out in 2013 and well out of the way from downtown. A little living room, kitchenette, and nice bathrooms. Great value for what you get.

The ocean surge that morning was strong. Strong enough to cancel the morning dives. Luckily it subsided in the afternoon and we were able to head out. Our first tank was at Tackle Box.

We descended and began our dive. Pedro was our dive master and Beth was the sweep. We moved slowly through the site making our way into a couple of swim throughs.

I noticed a nurse shark resting perfectly motionless on the ocean floor that the rest of the dive group passed by without realizing it. It was a bit of a surprise to me. I've never come across a nurse shark before and rarely get that up close to any sharks. I managed to get a decent picture before it moved on.

The remainder of the dive was largely uneventful but it was a good intro to diving in Belize.
