Freedive - Kia Maanu Kia Ora |
May 30, 2026 |
I'm taking a course from Water Safety NZ called Kia Maanu Kia Ora from Dive Wellington.

Kia Maanu Kia Ora
The first session was on 23 June, 2026. It was a pool session that was a good refresher for much of what I did in my PADI Freediving Course.
The second session was on 30 June, 2026. It was a sea session at the Island Bay Snorkel Trail, where we practised more freediving and water safety skills. At the end of it, we did do some freediving but the visibility was awful, although we did see some crayfish. It was barely 2 metres so it was hard to keep track of our buddies and we left the ocean sooner than later.
My progression throughout the session.
| Freedive | Time (seconds) | Depth (metres) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 42 | 5.5 |
| 2 | 39 | 3.7 |
| 3 | 36 | 4.0 |
| 4 | 45 | 3.2 |
| 5 | 49 | 3.4 |
| 6 | 42 | 3.6 |
| 7 | 39 | 3.1 |
| 8 | 53 | 3.3 |
